History
Chilliwack Cemeteries was founded in 1873 by the Independent Order of Odd Fellows (IOOF) and is believed to be the 4th oldest private registered perpetual care cemetery in BC.
With over 20,000 interments at Chilliwack Cemeteries, you’ll have a feeling of home with people here that you may have known throughout your life.
Odd Fellowship is defined as non-partisan, non-sectarian, and welcoming of all people without regard to religion, race, gender, sexual orientation, or national origin.
And although ownership has changed hands, Chilliwack Cemeteries is just as committed to offering all-inclusive burial options today, as was its original intention.
Beginning with predominantly traditional casket burials, Chilliwack Cemeteries included cremation interment options around the mid 60’s, and most recently added green burials to the options.
As a result, in-ground cremation began offering more opportunity for people to be buried with their ancestors, which previously wasn’t always possible.
Just take a peaceful stroll around and you’ll find a trove of undiscovered genealogical secrets including the names of the early pioneers of the area, intact headstones from the old Anglican Church of England, and the family memorial of Robert Stevenson, one of Chilliwack’s gold rush pioneers.
